You know, it’s weird to know that I’ve been expecting this to happen for a year. The second they aired the tag for the season 2 finale, it was obvious: Season 3 would be Brett Dalton’s last season of Agents of SHIELD. After they killed Ward in the midseason, only to bring him back as Hive, that seemed even more likely. So…

I’m not sure how to put this into words…

Brett Dalton is a better actor than most fandoms ever get to experience. Brett put up with a lot, from being called a boring, stiff actor in early season 1 (which happens, it’s acting, that’s kid stuff, comparatively), to receiving death threats and calls to kill himself, alongside comments about his family, after the HYDRA reveal. He has, time and time again, shown himself to be a kind, inviting person, who never let the extreme amounts of disgusting behaviour sent his way show in his interactions on social media, or at cons.

Brett Dalton has time and time again supported his fan bases - every single group of shippers (and I know ones from all corners who can name a moment he backed their ship), every single Agent Ward fan, every single HYDRA Ward fan, every single Hive fan. He’s done it with grace, and kindness, and, as often as possible, puns. He has interacted with so many in such huge, positive ways, and impacted so many lives of people in this fandom.

He brought people together, and, in part, yes, that was the show for introducing him, but that was also Brett, and what he brought to the table, and what he brought to the character.

Love or hate Grant Ward, or Hive, Brett Dalton was a gift to the Agents of SHIELD fandom.

So, thanks, Brett, for every moment, on-screen and off, from the day the Pilot began filming in February 2013, to the moment the season 3 Finale concluded, today.

Dear Skyeward fam,

I know this is hard on us.

I know that skyeward has been dead and gone for a long time and we’ve already bid farewell to Grant Ward but I know that as long as Brett was on that show we still had hope.

The Skyeward fandom is a strong one, we loved and hoped for our ship no matter what happened and the writers know that too.

The writers purposely used us by having Brett play Hive also because they knew that killing off Brett so early would jeopardize the views even more then they were already in jeopardy, they knew that AOS would have been put in the bubble and have not been renewed so early.

They purposely used skyeward scenes, used skyeward quotes to reel us in. And in the finale not only do they kill off Brett but they do it alongside the new guy Skye is dating. 

I miss skyeward as much as anyone in the fandom. We never got forgiveness, we never got more, we never saw them have a final goodbye before Coulson killed Ward, we never got more intimacy, more scenes. It breaks my heart. 

It hurts even more knowing, that we wont see Chloe and Brett side by side anymore. They were best friends, they were so close and we loved seeing them interact together so much. We know that this means no more pictures, or videos or red carpets and silliness together.

We all know that AOS is going to crash and burn next season, MCU already ignores them and even Chloe has commented on the lack of viewership, this last episode is the nail in the coffin but Skyeward will always be our ship and we’ll always love what they were, this fandom is filled with SO many talented, writers, vidders, artists etc. Let’s keep skyeward alive through that.
