In 27 years Fitz has never had a girlfriend (or so we can assume from him saying “I don’t have an ex” in 2x04). That’s fun to think on. Fitz was, I believe, the top graduate of his class. In a place filled with smart people he was a genius which would have made him stand out. Plus he’s a total cutie. There’s no way he didn’t attract a few admirers. But since he and Simmons were so inseparable most girls were probably too intimidated by their relationship to try to do anything. 
And that ones that may have asked him out anyway? I could imagine Fitz saying yes because he didn’t know how to say no. And then going out on the first date only to realize in the middle of it that he’d rather be talking to Simmons. 

I agree! Although, while I’ve never imagined Fitz having ex-girlfriends (which is supported by 02x04 like you said), I imagine he may have had a few hookups, given that he did become extremely popular at the Academy, and he’s so darn adorable.

I imagine he may have been fumbly or awkward with them like he was with Skye in the beginning, but I think the main reason that prevented him from having girlfriends, not hookups, is Simmons. Not only because he would rather be talking to Simmons, but because he would not shut up about Simmons. No girl wants to be on a date with a guy who won’t stop talking about how awesome another girl is. And I don’t think Fitz may have even realized - he was just talking about the most awesome person ever! Some admirers may have powered through a date or two, even slept with him in hopes of swaying him… but Fitz will always be part of Fitzsimmons.
